Am I using my Network to it's Fullest Potential?

Ideas to make the most of your network

In addition file and printer sharing, you can:

  1. Share a modem pool- No need to buy a modem for every PC.  With a modem pool, any user can dial out to the Internet and employees on travel can dial-in to see their e-mail and share files.

  2. Share software- some licenses allow you to have one copy of software on the server and any 1 user at a time can use it (sometimes referred to as "simultaneous licenses").  Additional "network" licenses are available if needed.

  3. Network faxing- Setup a fax machine anywhere on the network and all employees can send/receive faxes from their PC

  4. Backups through the network- Have users store their data files on the server then perform scheduled nightly backups (instead of no backups for PCs or backing up each PC individually).

  5. Speedier, More Accurate System Installs:  Store drivers or an image of a "model" PC  on the shared drive for fast installs that work correctly every time.
